Hero Group to become climate positive

  • First GRI Sustainability Report
  • Report outlines Group’s green ambitions, targets

Lenzburg, March 25, 2022 – The Hero Group, which is on a mission to delight consumers by conserving the goodness of nature, has published its first ever sustainability report.

The report, based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, highlights the Group’s sustainability credentials and efforts taken to be a climate positive business.

“Our aim is to be a climate positive business that gives back to nature more than we take. This means considering our entire value chain and exploring ways to proactively bring benefits to our environment. In practice, this means taking action for sustainable sourcing, carbon neutral manufacturing, and products for planetary health,” said Christine Crosby, Sustainability Director Hero Group.

She said the Group’s first GRI sustainability report was testament to the determination to do what is right for people and the planet, using a global reporting standard and building on data methodologies according to the GHG (greenhouse gas) scientific protocol.

Apart from plotting the progress made by the company in this area so far, the report sets out the Group’s ambitions, targets, and accomplishments based on environmental footprint collection and rigorous Group-wide data collection over the past years.

Hero’s sustainability ambition is based on four pillars, embracing a farm-to-fork strategy. The pillars are:

Pillar 1: Sustainable Sourcing
Pillar 2: Net Neutral Production
Pillar 3: Naturally Healthy Food
Pillar 4: Purposeful People

“Sustainability has been part of Hero’s DNA from the very beginning but, in the last few years, we have stepped up our efforts to make a more positive and visible Group-wide contribution. We are a purpose-led company and want to future-proof our organization while making a meaningful positive difference to the wider world,” said Rob Versloot, CEO Hero Group.
