Food Naturalness Index explained

For over a decade, Hero’s R&D team has collaborated with top universities to unravel the complexities of food naturalness. This research led to the creation of the Food Naturalness Index (FNI), a ground-breaking tool that objectively measures the naturalness and healthiness of our products.

The definition of food naturalness has been the subject of debate for many years, both in scientific and commercial circles. Since the launch of the Group mission (to delight consumers by conserving the goodness of nature) in 2012, the R&D team started research projects with the ETH Zurich and University of Murcia to get an in-depth understanding of the multifaceted and controversial aspect of the term food naturalness.

Using the research insights, our R&D team created the company’s Food Naturalness Index (FNI). This index is an objective tool to determine how natural and healthy our products actually are – and it provides a basis for internal improvement towards our mission. Twelve years after the mission was launched, we have now the most natural portfolio in our history.
