Light-weight glass for our jam products
Our packaging development and procurement teams worked closely together with a glass supplier to reduce to come up with innovative ways to reduce CO2e emissions in the production process of our 340g jam jars.
By utilizing AI digital twin modeling, we successfully reduced the weight and CO2e emissions per glass by 13%, all while maintaining product safety and stability throughout the production and transport process.
The initiative to create thinner yet stable glass began in 2022 when we worked with a company specializing in artificial intelligence design and calculation. We conducted several tests, starting with digital simulations and later moving to practical tests at our glass supplier and on our production lines.
In 2025, we successfully rolled out our new thinner, lighter, yet still stable and food-safe 340g jars, which are now used for Hero spreads in various markets.
The weight-reduced glass is projected to save 700 tons of CO2e in the first year alone – and that’s not even including the emission savings in transportation. This initiative holds even greater potential as we plan to expand this approach to additional glass formats, markets, and suppliers within the Natural Spreads and Baby Food platforms.
